Player of the year 2008
Joshua Cameron - Lake Boga |
Reducing youth violence and aggressive attitudes, by rewarding fair play on our footy fields.
We aim to impress upon young people that winning at all costs is not as important as how we play the game and how we treat and respect others who are also trying to achieve enjoyment from the sport.
The Best Player may not only be the most talented footballer, he should also be an ambassador for our sport and a role model for other competitors.
At each match the field umpires will choose the two most prominent players from each competing team and award them 1 to 10 points for: |
> Skill Level/Playing Performance
> Behaviour/Team Spirit/Sportsmanship
> Courtesy Respect for Officials |

*Bob Lane: 141 men and women of the Victoria Police have died upholding the law, among the fallen is Detective Senior Constable Bob Lane. Lost in time is Lane's standing as the only league footballer to have died representing the Victoria Police.
In 1966 he was recruited to Carlton from Kerang and played two senior games. In April the following year Lane was cleared to Williamstown. Not long after, he opted to combine his policing duties with a stint as captain-coach of Lake Boga, just south of Swan Hill, in the then Mid-Murray Football League. In 1973, Lane returned to Melbourne, playing for Williamstown at centre half-forward. Three years later, he returned to the Mid-Murray FL to take on the job as captain-coach of Lalbert. He led Lalbert to a premiership in his first year, 1976, when they defeated Woorinen by a point. (See Honour Boards) |
